A detuned reactor with capacitor system works as a function of power factor correction and prevent harmonic current and voltage from further amplification due to resonance.By adding a reactor in series with the capacitor it forms a low pass resonant circuit which prevents a higher order harmonics to pass through
PARAMETERS AND SELECTION OF DETUNED REACTOR COUPLING OF CAPACITORS AND REACTORS
- Voltage increase in capacitor due to harmonics will lead to premature failure of the capacitor . Hence it is warmly recommended to use the proposed coupling of capacitor and reactor.
- Harmonic blocking reactance is based on the harmonic voltage and current spectrum .The harmonics blocking frequency purely depends on the lowest harmonics current
- 140 Hz will be used if THD of current is substantially higher than 60%
- 210 Hz will be used if THD of current is almost equal to 60%
