- The Zig Zag transformers contains six coils on three cores.The first coil on each core is connected contrariwise to the second coil on the next core
- Zig Zag transformers has two windings on each leg
- Each leg of the Zig Zag connection is connected to a winding from another which is out of phase
- Zig Zag winding of the transformer limits the circulation of harmonics(3rd,6th,9th)
- Zig Zag connections of transformers is also known as interconnected star connection
- This connection has some of the feature of the star and Delta connection
- Zig Zag transformers offers a low impedance path to Zero sequence components under the fault condition so it is used as earthing transformer also
- Harmonic voltages presented in the system to some extent can be cancelled in Zig Zag winding due to opposite connection of Zig Zag winding
- Delta Star transformer do not eliminate harmonics.K rated Isolation transformers can be designed to withstand harmonics and are designed to tolerate the heating effects of harmonics created by electronic equipment
- These Delta Zig Zag transformers are also known as “HARMONIC MITIGATING TRANSFORMER” which also mitigates the triplen harmonics
- Zig Zag secondary winding in transformers causes phase shift in triplen harmonics which results in cancelling effects
- Unlike Delta star transformer the Delta Zig Zag transformer actually treat the triplen harmonics in the Zig Zag winding
- We manufacture Zig Zag transformers with Class H insulation and are designed to eliminate the “Skin effect”
- Zig Zag winding traps the triplen harmonics current and prevents them from travelling upstream where they can produce undesirable effects
- The Zig Zag transformer has no phase displacement between primary and secondary winding.Therefore the Delta Zig Zag transformer can be used in the same manner as Delta Delta or Star Star transformer without any phase shift
